Crowns
A crown is for fixing big cavities or fractures. Any decay is removed and the tooth is shaped for the crown to fit over. Sometimes, the tooth needs to be built up with filling material. An impression is taken, which is sent to a lab for a tooth-colored porcelain crown to be made. A temporary crown is placed while the permanent one is being made.
Fillings
Fillings are for fixing small problems in teeth. The problem could be a chip, a crack, or tooth decay.
Crowns
Crowns are for fixing bigger problems in teeth. If the tooth has a large amount missing, or a large cavity, a crown may be needed. Crowns are usually made of porcelain, but can be made of metal as well.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is the removal of the nerve and blood vessel from the canal inside the tooth and root. The canal is then cleaned out and filled. The remaining tooth structure then needs to be fixed, usually with a crown.
Pulpectomy
A pulpectomy is also referred to as a "partial root canal." The nerve and blood vessel are removed, and the canal is cleaned out. This is usually done to relieve pain, and the root canal treatment will need to be performed at a later time.
